The High School utilizes a six week marking period. At the end of the first three weeks of each marking period, teachers will send Academic Progress Reports to families. Parents are always welcome to contact a teacher if they have any questions about the academic progress of their son/daughter. Report cards are issued at the conclusion of each six week grading period and will be sent home the week following the end of each marking period.
Two honor roll statuses may be achieved at Bishop Thomas K. Gorman High School:
Both averages are based on a simple average.
Bishop T. K. Gorman High School believes in the harmonious development of the whole person. When disharmony occurs in a student's life, however, the school has an obligation to intercede. Students who do not place enough emphasis on their academic studies, as evident through two or more failures on their progress reports or report cards will be ineligible for extracurricular activities until they have remediated their deficiencies. Bishop T. K. Gorman Catholic School's academic eligibility reflects guidelines set out by the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) and Bishop Thomas K. Gorman's Athletic Department. Students regain their eligibility status at the end of every six weeks marking period. If a student is failing in more than one subject, he/she will be declared ineligible at 8:00 a.m. on the Wednesday following the marking period and will remain ineligible until the three week designated ineligibility period ends.
Ineligibility will end if the grades are brought up to passing at the end of the three week progress report time according to the following criteria:
Homework is a part of the school's curriculum and enriches the educational experience. It is an essential and usually graded ingredient in a student's education. Homework can take many different forms, including, but not limited to, written work, exercises, review of notes, study time, reading material from books or other materials or projects. Parents or siblings may help guide students in homework but fundamentally homework is independent work. Students should complete homework on their own Students who spend excessive amounts of time in one subject area need to see the teacher of have their parents set up a teacher conference. Middle school students and some high school students are given models of homework and usually given time in class to begin their homework assignments.
