Accelerated Reader, AR in short, is a nationally acclaimed computerized reading program developed by Advantage Learning System. AR brings the wonderful world of children and young adult literature and technology together to give a special appeal to today's children.
It promotes reading comprehension among K to 12 grade students by developing thousands of reading practice quizzes on quality fiction and informative non-fiction books to compliment their reading interests. There are also easy-to-use report systems for teachers and parents to monitor their kids' progress.
We believe that reading is crucial to the development of various language and comprehension skills and to the enrichment of the mind. In order to encourage our students to become more active and successful readers, our school has implemented the AR program and through the annual challenges and other incentive programs, looking forward to creating greater reading energy and atmosphere on campus, and at the same time reserve a very special corner for our readers to excel and be rewarded in their domains.
Readers may succeed at different levels according to their own goals and interests. In addition to the annual challenges, students also enjoy spending their "fun-filled" AR points at the Library Store several times a year to buy gifts that we have collected from the Gorman community and the local business. We strive to improve the store and your involvement, ideas and donations will make a difference.
To maintain our readers interest in the program and also keep up with newest reading trends, we add a lot of new books with quizzes to the program throughout the year. There are also designated subject quizzes such as the Spanish, Science and Social Studies lists that teachers may take advantage of as required reading for class or as means of bonus credits to deserving students. We have full access to all quizzes created for the program.
