2012 Summer Bridge

Summer Bridge is now accepting registration for classes in the following:

Pottery

Learn to work with clay in hand-building techniques that include: pinch, coil and slab methods, introduction to “throwing” on the potter’s wheel, and no-fire decorating techniques.

Pastel Portraiture

Learn the art of pastel portraiture.  Students will enhance their artistic skills while making a number of portraits in this class.   

Watercolor

Have fun learning basic watercolor techniques and using them to create unique abstract paintings, as well as still life and landscape compositions 

Trout Fishing

Students will learn effective ways to angle for the elusive and cunning members of the Oncorhynchus genus (Trout).  Spend three days and 2 nights camping and fishing at Beavers Bend, Oklahoma

Brother Against Brother "The Civil War"

This class will cover the history of the Civil War.  Activities will include discussions of events and battles, military games, video presentations, learning battlefield tactics, and field trips.  The class will conclude with an overnight  trip to  Vicksburg.          

U.S. Military Logistics History with Paintball Reenactment      

Learn military strategy and tactics from the U.S. Revolution through Desert Storm, and apply these techniques in paintball military simulations. 

Woodland Survival 

Learn survival techniques, including: first aid, spear fishing, small game trapping, archery, trapping, edible plants, and shelter building, and more.  Includes an overnight survival camping trip. 

Foundations in Persoanal Finance 

Foundations in Personal Finance will provide  students with sound financial principles that will guide them into adulthood.  The topics covered in this course will be: Savings, Understanding investments, Wealth building and College Savings, Dangers of debt, Consumer Awareness, credit bureaus and collection practices, budgeting 101, Bargain shopping, relating with money, Careers & Employment Taxes, Ins and outs of Insurance, and Real Estate & Mortgages.  Students will leave this class feeling empowered about taking charge of their financial future and personal finances.

Reading Book Clubs

Book Clubs will feature the assigned summer reading books for students entering sixth, seventh, and eighth grade.  Parents are welcome to attend and discuss the books along with their children at no additional charge. The book is included in the registration fee.
