Welcome to the Bishop Thomas K. Gorman Catholic School Drama/Performing Arts program.

Bishop Gorman high school students may take a formal drama class as a fine arts elective. This class is designed to give the student the opportunity to explore the different aspects of theatre. Emphasis will be on learning and perfecting the basics of acting and production work while exploring all areas of the theatre such as improvisation and pantomime, technical theatre, playwriting and play analysis, and theatre history.

Students in this class will work both to develop their own individual God-given talent and to work closely with other students as an ensemble. Our drama students are encouraged to compete in all TAPPS acting and speech competitions. Advanced students will have the opportunity to take leadership roles in directing projects, original or published, for performance in addition to assisting with competitions and the annual musical. They will be provided the tools they need to prepare auditions and to be successful in a college/conservatory program.

The drama program fosters an appreciation for the dramatic arts by providing exposure to a broad range of theatrical experiences, from performing roles in productions, working on "tech," or attending professional performances in the area.

There are many opportunities for students to take part in theatrical productions at both the middle and high school levels. The academic year begins with our participation in the TAPPS One Act Play Competition for high school students in November. This is followed by the annual Fine Arts Showcase where drama students have an opportunity to perform scenes and solos alongside our band, strings, and choir ensembles. The middle school students perform in the PSIA One Act Play Competition held in April. TAPPS Speech competition in April provides our high school students with many events including duet acting, solo acting, poetry and prose interpretation, as well as persuasive speaking and original oratory. The annual Spring Musical in May rounds out the many performance opportunities offered during the year.
