Message from Sister Josephine Garrett

Hello!

I am excited to be a part of the Saint Gregory staff and serve as your school counselor.

My background includes being a convert to the Catholic faith, 15 years ago, shortly after graduating from the University of Dallas. I am a Sister of the Holy Family of Nazareth (the Mother Frances Sisters) and have been with the Sisters for 9 years. This year is my year of preparation for final vows, so please keep me in your prayers as I prepare to make my final vows in the Fall of 2020.

My professional background and preparation for the ministry of counseling includes holding a Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. I am a Nationally Certified Counselor and a Licensed Professional Counselor Intern in the State of Texas. I also specialize in the treatment of trauma and am an EMDR trained clinician.

I am excited to provide support and presence to your family and children in whatever way will benefit the overall hopes you have for your family.

God bless!

Sister Josephine

End of Year and Summer Guidance Materials

  • End of Year Journal: Age-friendly ways to help your child reflect on the year as it ends
  • Summer Safety Plan: (even though Summer may look different!) - in the Summer safety materials there is a page for setting up a Summer routine
  • Fostering Sibling Kindness: because we know that although togetherness may help us grow in love for each other, it does not always help us grow in LIKE of each other. Includes a parent tip sheet ☺
  • Resilience Activity: for those going out of 3rd grade or coming into 3rd grade, there is a resilience activity you can try over the Summer, as the kids implement the various resilience based behaviors listed, they will be rewarded with a fun activity you have written behind the activities.
  • Social Skills Poster: I have included a pretty comprehensive list of different behaviors that we can practice to help improve social skills throughout the Summer (even during social-distancing!)
  • Simple Service Opportunities: A link is provided to coloring pages for essential workers – this is simple service for those who may be experiencing lots of stress during this difficult time. Imagine if your postal worker opened their mailbox and saw the thank you coloring page included here from your SG student? ☺ They don’t have to use these, the pages can spark other ideas.
