Uniform/Dress Code Guidelines
Flynn O'Hara Uniforms or (800) 441.4122) is the Bishop Gorman Uniform provider. Please visit the school uniforms page for more information. Uniform guidelines can also be found in the Student/Parent Handbook. If you are not sure of the appropriate uniform to wear, please check the daily school calendar on the website. It will list the appropriate schedule including Mass days or special uniform days such as Honors Convocations.
When a student is absent:
- Please call the school prior to 9:00 a.m. and follow up the phone call with an e-mail notification to the school.
- Students are responsible for completing all classwork, homework, or assessments missed due to any absences.
Family Trips vacations and trips should be planned around the school calendar.
Try not to schedule appointments during the school day. When it is necessary to schedule appointments during the school day, send students to the office with a note before school. Students will be given a corridor pass indicating the time for the teacher to dismiss the student for the appointment. The parent must meet the student in the office and sign the student out.
School hours are 8:10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. There is early dismissal every Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. for faculty meetings.
High school students may enter the building at 7:15 a.m. Middle School students should not be dropped off at school before 7:30 a.m. Middle school students must report directly to the cafeteria between 7:30 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. when they arrive on campus. Once there they may get a pass to go to the library, the computer lab, or to see a teacher.
Students arriving on campus after the start of the school day are considered tardy to school. High school students must sign in on the arrival/departure log in the office and obtain a late-admit pass before reporting to class. Parents should accompany middle school students to the office to sign them in on the arrival/departure log if late.
Middle school students must be picked up on the Middle School side of campus or walked to other parking areas by a parent, guardian, or high school sibling. Parent(s)/guardian(s) should park in the MS parking lot and enter the pick-up area line once their student is ready. Parent(s)/guardian(s) may also use the MS crosswalk to pick up their student, but all students must be accompanied by an adult when using the crosswalk. Middle school students must be picked up within fifteen minutes of the end of school or the end of their extracurricular activity. Unsupervised middle school students after that time will be sent to the Extended Care program at the parent(s)/guardian(s)' expense.
After school care is offered through our Extended Day program. There is no charge for this program until 4:00 p.m. The service is offered until 5:30 p.m.
The library is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. during regular school days and open for 30 more minutes after classes on early release days. Please note that the library is open on Wednesdays for high school students only. Middle school students must report to Extended Care 15 minutes after the final bell on Wednesday.
All grades and assignments can be accessed through RenWeb. Parent(s)/guardian(s) are able to view the student’s progress, access contact information for teachers, and see progress reports and report cards.
Students are assigned to an advisory teacher at their grade level. This ensures that each student becomes familiar with one of his/her teachers and vice-versa. These advisories meet periodically during the week to develop identity and community as well as set goals and discuss issues.
Advisory teachers have time together each week to meet with students, parents, and each other. It is during these meetings that the challenges students encounter are identified and where the student receives much of the support necessary for success.
Communication is an essential component of your child's success. We facilitate this through several avenues including student/parent/teacher conferences, email, and the school's website, Facebook, and Twitter pages. All teachers' email addresses are available on the website's Staff Directory .
Regular communications include a weekly Tyler Catholic Schools News Update e-mail (which will also be available on the school website). Additional scheduled communication opportunities include:
- Student/Parent/Teacher Conferences are held in the fall and spring. Students are encouraged to attend these conferences.
- Open House is held each year in August. At this time you will follow your child's schedule and meet your child's teachers. Please check the school calendar for the date of this year's Open House.
- Email any faculty/staff member through the contact section. There is a grade level mailing address at the bottom of the list with all teachers in that grade level (for example, to email all 8th grade teachers, you would select the 8th grade teachers link at the bottom of the list).
Homework is assigned every night. If the student does not have written homework then their homework is to study. Homework is preparation for the classes and is an essential component of academic success.
- Excessive Homework - If a student is unable to complete an assignment in a reasonable amount of time, please contact the teacher.
- No homework - If a child does not seem to have any homework, please contact the Principal or Assistant Principal.
There are several provisions for academic support. The St. Joseph the Worker Math lab is available to all students for academic support before school beginning at 7:15 a.m. and again after school (except for Wednesday) beginning at 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Should your student be diagnosed with a learning challenge or otherwise recommended by the grade level advisory team, he/she may take advantage of the Gorman Learning Center (GLC).
The school cafeteria serves breakfast and lunch for purchase each regular school day. Families may set up an account for a child by either (a) writing TCSS Café a check; or (b) setting up an online account through Myschoolbucks.com. The cost of the meals will be deducted from that amount. Otherwise, students must pay daily for their purchases.
All students are assigned one locker for personal use and possibly a shared locker for their coats, empty book bags, and or gym clothes. No locks may be used. Bookbags must be able to fit in the locker. Gym bags that do not fit in the lockers must be placed on shelves located in the hallway.
Students who have these devices must never use them or have them visible during the school day.
Students may be allowed to use the school phones with the permission of the office staff.
Bad Weather Days
Annoucements of closings will be made on KLTV and KTBB and the school website, Facebook, and Twitter pages.

Green and white are the primary school colors, and the Crusader is the school mascot.
