Printing from Chromebooks and MacBooks

As of 12/16/2020, there have been significant improvements to print capabilities from Chromebooks and MacBooks.  See below for details.

Every student is given $20 print credit per semester, enough credit to print 400 pages per school year.

Students can check their print history and balance at any time by logging into PaperCut with their network or Google credentials.

Students are able to print from a Chromebook to the library, room 107, room 108 printers as follows:

  1. Log into your Chromebook with your school-issued email account
  2. Open a file or webpage to print
  3. In the print window, change the destination to "See more..."
  4. A Green/Black window pops up, enter your network credentials
    1. Username: FirstNameLastName
    2. Password: Same as your school-issued email account
  5. You will now see three new printers added; they'll have a green logo that says Mobility Print.

The library copier is pre-installed on every students' MacBook. You will need to authenticate your print job each time you print unless you select "Remember this password in my keychain". Ensure your credentials are correct before saving them in your keychain.

  1. Select from the program you're printing from, open File > Print
  2. Select "Library Copier" from the list
  3. Enter your network credentials in the password window
    1. Username: FirstNameLastName
    2. Password: Same as your school-issued email account

How to fix a bad password that has been saved in Keychain

  1. Launchpad > Search Keychain
  2. Open Keychain
  3. Find "Library Copier" > Right Click and delete

Troubleshooting

  • The first step is always to restart your computer

Printers are pre-installed on lab computers. Students can print to the library, room 107, and room 108 printers by logging into a school computer with their school-issued credentials. Your password is the same as your school-issued Gmail account.

Students can print by sending an email while on or off-campus to one of the following email addresses as follows. (Previously this feature was limited to .pdf files; it is now compatible with Microsoft Office files.)

  1. Go to your email account
  2. Create a new email and enter one of the following email addresses in the "To" field

  4. Leave the subject and body empty
  5. Send the email
  6. Check your inbox for an email from the print server (You may need to wait for a minute for the email to be sent)

There are no restrictions for adding printers on a Chromebook.

Install a Wired Printer (USB)

  • Connect your Chromebook to a home printer using a printer USB cable
  • In the Chrome browser, type chrome://settings
  • Search for "Printers"
  • Expand "Printers" and select "Add Printer"
  • Select the printer connected by the USB cable and select "Add"
  • The printer will now be selectable when printing

Install a Wireless Printer

  • Connect to your home wireless network
  • In the Chrome browser, type chrome://settings
  • Search for "Printers"
  • Expand "Printers" and select "Add Printer"
  • Printers on your home network will be detected. Select your wireless printer from the list and then select "Add"
  • The printer will now be selectable when printing

As of 12/16/20, students are able to add a home wired or wireless printer to their MacBook.

Install a Wired Printer (USB)

  • Connect your MacBook to your home printer using a printer USB cable
  • For most printers, the printer will be installed automatically and ready to use

Install a Wireless Printer

  • Connect to your home wireless network
  • Select the Apple > System Preferences > Printers & Scanners
  • Select the + icon
  • Select your home wireless printer from the list and select "Add"
  • For most printers, the printer will be installed automatically and ready to use

Troubleshooting

  • The first step is always to restart your computer
  • The new printer capability is dependent on the successful execution of a script on each student device. If adding a printer doesn't work as expected, most likely, there is an issue with connectivity to the mobile device management system. This can only be fixed by leaving the MacBook with the technology department.
