Book Clubs

Book Clubs will feature the assigned summer reading books for students at each grade level 6th – 12th grades.  Classes will help students build analytical skills, as well as begin or complete assignments related to their assigned summer reading.  The book is included in the registration fee.

 

Creative Writing Workshop

Students will develop creative writing pieces for the Scholastic Writing Contest. Entry types found at artandwriting.org

 

Study Skills for Middle School

An introduction to studying, helping students learn:  How to study for classes, rather than just memorizing facts. How to study for Math class vs. English. What do I study when reading a novel? How do I know what is important? What is an annotation?  Discernment in what to study and why. Content studying and outlining? How to take notes in CLASS! (Because you should be taking notes in class!)  What exactly do I need to understand? How can I remember this information?

 

Study Skills for High School and College

An introduction to studying, helping students learn:  How to study for classes, rather than just memorizing facts. How to study for Math vs. English. What to look for in content, context, and factual information. What to study and why. Contextual studying and outlining. How to take notes in CLASS! Math Mania 1

STRONGLY encouraged for 6th-7th graders and new students. Introduction to Math skills including all multiplication and division skills, Pre-algebra, Factoring, Fractions, 1-2 variables, number lines, positive and negative integers, and more.  How to do word problems, and how to work two and three-step problems. 

What are some memory skills I need to know? How to study for Math classes and Math facts. Why do I have to write the steps down? Why is it important that I know these steps?  How do I take notes in Math class?  What exactly do I need to understand? How can I remember this information?

 

Math Mania 2

STRONGLY encouraged for 8th-9th graders and new students.  Review of Pre-Algebra Math skills including all multiplication and division two and three-step skills, Pre-algebra facts, Factoring, Fractions (add, subtract, multiply, divide, in and out of equations), 1-2 variables, positive and negative integers, and more.  What keywords to look for in word problems and how to solve them. 

What are some memory skills I need to know? How to study for Math classes and Math facts? Why do I have to write the steps down? Why is it important that I know these steps?  How do I take notes in Math class?  What exactly do I need to understand? How can I remember this information?
