On May 11, 2023, Bishop Thomas K. Gorman Catholic School hosted an all school assembly with guest speaker Dr. Francis Beckwith, Professor of Philosophy and Church/State studies at Baylor University. Dr. Beckwith is the author of numerous books and is a nationally sought after scholar and speaker.
Though raised in a Catholic home, he became an evangelical protestant and respected Protestant scholar. He was elected as the 58th President of the Evangelical Theological Society in 2006. However, his study of the early Church Fathers and sincere search for answers to probing theological questions led him back to the Catholic Church. He then resigned his position.
Dr. Beckwith is what is often called a “revert”, having returned to the Catholic Church. He shared his inspiring search for truth and his journey back to full communion with the Catholic Church with students, faculty, and administrators. The talk was followed by questions from the students and compelling answers from Dr. Beckwith.
