Bishop Gorman, Whitehouse and Winnsboro have all had recent success on the wrestling mat.

Gorman competed at Prep State, where senior Zeke Conner qualified for Prep Nationals with a third-place finish in the 285-pound class.

Prep Nationals will take place Feb. 22-24 at Lehigh University at Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

Conner went 4-1 at the event. Sam Kerzee and Cade Scott both went 3-2 and placed fifth. Also competing at Prep State for Gorman were Sean O’Neill, Eli Saurette, Eli Mahfood and Drew Scott.

At the District 6-5A Championships at Midlothian Heritage, Whitehouse’s Carter McLaughlin went undefeated and won the 144-pound class, winning 7-1 in the championship match. McLaughlin (25-0) will compete in the Class 5A Region II Tournament Feb. 9-10 at Frisco Independence High School.

The top four finishers from each weight class qualify for regionals.

Winnsboro freshman Karson McNeil won the 285-pound weight class with an 8-2 victory in the championship.

Winnsboro junior Gage Fulmer won the 215-pound weight class with a victory by fall in the championship.

Whitehouse senior Josh Green was the district runner up in the 190-pound weight class.

Winnsboro’s Steven Pena won the 106-pound weight class with a victory by fall at the 2:25 mark of the championship match.

Whitehouse is sending three girls to regionals as Baylie Row (145), Jacelyn Guinn (138) and Alexis Bock (133) all placed second.

Winnsboro's Tatum Mays (165) and Graicen Fulmer (185), both freshmen, advanced to regionals. It is the first year for Winnsboro’s girls program. Mays placed third and Gracien Fulmer placed fourth.
