The Bishop Gorman Crusaders used a balanced scoring attack to score a 51-37 win over the Dallas Akiba Yavneh Academy Bulldogs, clinching the TAPPS 3A District 2 championship on Thursday at CM Haddad Gymnasium.

The Crusaders (28-4) finished district unbeaten at 11-0. The Bulldogs (17-6) fall to 9-2 in league play.

Thursday's game was actually the championship game of the district tournament. 

The Bulldogs actually led 24-23 at halftime and the game was tied 34-34 entering the fourth quarter.

In the final period, Gorman outscored Akiba Yavneh 17-3 to capture the victory.

Evan Thibodeaux led the Crusaders with 11 points, including three 3-pointers.

Ryan Richbourg, who hit two 3-pointers, was right behind with 10 points.

Others scoring for Bishop Gorman were Joseph Richbourg (9), Beau Bender (8), Anthony Todd (8), EJ Coppock (3) and Trey Newsome (2).

Coppock hit one 3-pointer.

Thibodeaux hit two treys in the fourth quarter for six points and Bender added four points.

Darren Sacher led the Bulldogs with 11 points with Joe Schwartz adding 10 points.

To reach the district championship final, the Cru defeated McKinney Cornerstone Christian (73-24) in the first round, followed by a 64-31 victory over Lucas Christian Academy in the semifinals.

Bishop Gorman team members include sophomore Beau Bender, sophomore Jack Coan, freshman EJ Coppock, sophomore Brooks Frans, sophomore Nate Glosson, freshman Carlin Ifeadi, junior Trey Newsome, junior David Phillips, junior Joseph Richbourg, junior Ryan Richbourg, junior Evan Thibodeaux, senior Anthony Todd, freshman James Trempert and Leo Wiebe.

Kevin Murray is the head coach. Assistants are Ed Burns and Ricky Wilson.
