Catholic education has become synonymous with academic excellence since its inception in the Middle Ages. From the founding of the first cathedrals and universities, Catholics have been educating and improving literacy around the world for centuries. Combining Greek philosophy and education with Catholic moral teaching is the cornerstone of our model.
Bishop Gorman Catholic School continues this model of educational excellence. With a focus on the spirit, mind, and body, BG students excel by every possible metric. Student successes include National Merit and AP Scholars, formation as priests and missionaries, highly sought-after professionals educated at the best colleges and universities, national and international artists and performers, and the opportunity to play sports at the college-level.
As these students of all beliefs are developed into professionals, artists and athletes, they are also formed in the teaching of the Catholic faith, love, and service to others. BG students attend Holy Mass weekly and perform over 100 hours of community service in high school. Additionally, the 11th grade Christian service immersion program offers students the opportunity to serve locally, nationally, and internationally. All students are able to serve around the school and in their local parishes and churches.
Our Founders, even from the Middle Ages, laid the groundwork for this great system of education. Let us thank God for the opportunity to provide such excellence to the greater Tyler community.

Yes! This is the actual chair sat in by Bishop Gorman during the school's dedication.
According to the story, Marnie and Elias Joseph owned this beautiful antique chair and loaned it the school for the opening dedication. When they received it back, there was a little damage. Bishop Gorman sat and tapped his ring on the right arm of the chair during the ceremony. You can see those marks in the close-up image. After the passing of the Josephs, this chair was donated to St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Flint, where it was reupholstered. Now, the chair is finally back at Bishop Gorman for all to see.
During Founders Week, you never know what you might learn about the school.

Give Back to Bishop Gorman! Wednesday, October 1@ Bubba's 11am-9pm, Tuesday, October 7 with Tom's Coffee at Bishop Gorman from 7:30-9am.

This morning, Fr. Hank Lanik blessed the statue of St. Michael the Archangel in front of Bishop Gorman Catholic School. An Eagle Scout project to honor his late father, Brooks Frans developed a beautiful place of prayer near the entrance of the school. With benches, flowers and shrubs, the Bishop Gorman community can pause to pray and thank God for the lives of those whom our community has lost.
Some might wonder why Catholics bless statues, buildings, images and other things. It is to signify that these "things" are being dedicated to a sacred purpose. The statues and images are used for meditation, and to focus believers on prayer and holiness.
Thank you, Brooks Frans, for sharing your faith with the entire BG community, and creating a beautiful prayer and remembrance space for future Crusaders to come.
