Bishop Gorman Catholic School continues this model of educational excellence. With a focus on the spirit, mind, and body, BG students excel by every possible metric. Student successes include National Merit and AP Scholars, formation as priests and missionaries, highly sought-after professionals educated at the best colleges and universities, national and international artists and performers, and the opportunity to play sports at the college-level.
As these students of all beliefs are developed into professionals, artists and athletes, they are also formed in the teaching of the Catholic faith, love, and service to others. BG students attend Holy Mass weekly and perform over 100 hours of community service in high school. Additionally, the 11th grade Christian service immersion program offers students the opportunity to serve locally, nationally, and internationally. All students are able to serve around the school and in their local parishes and churches.
Our Founders, even from the Middle Ages, laid the groundwork for this great system of education. Let us thank God for the opportunity to provide such excellence to the greater Tyler community.

According to the story, Marnie and Elias Joseph owned this beautiful antique chair and loaned it the school for the opening dedication. When they received it back, there was a little damage. Bishop Gorman sat and tapped his ring on the right arm of the chair during the ceremony. You can see those marks in the close-up image. After the passing of the Josephs, this chair was donated to St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Flint, where it was reupholstered. Now, the chair is finally back at Bishop Gorman for all to see.
During Founders Week, you never know what you might learn about the school.

Some might wonder why Catholics bless statues, buildings, images and other things. It is to signify that these "things" are being dedicated to a sacred purpose. The statues and images are used for meditation, and to focus believers on prayer and holiness.
Thank you, Brooks Frans, for sharing your faith with the entire BG community, and creating a beautiful prayer and remembrance space for future Crusaders to come.

One Act Play, Christmas Pageants, and the All-School Musical are an important part of the Arts in Education at Bishop Gorman. Theatre students and Industrial Arts students can showcase their talents through these productions. In addition to extra-curricular opportunities, students may take theatre and acting classes. This year's theatre classes have been creating some of their own scripts and learning how to present a character.
Industrial Arts students learn construction, welding, and help create the sets and backdrops for the plays and productions at Bishop Gorman.
This year, the Christmas Extravaganza will be held in the HS Gym on December 10 and our school musical this year is High School Musical On Stage; we look forward to showing off our wonderful theatre students in May!
We hope you have enjoyed our focus on Arts in Education this week. You can further support our efforts by purchasing a BG Coupon Book which provides funds for the arts.
Today, we ask for the intercession of St. Genesius, patron saint of actors.

Arts in Education Week also includes photography and journalism at Bishop Gorman. These programs are essential in spreading the good word about Bishop Gorman.
Photography is taught by Felipe Natera, and journalism is taught by Lisa Carlisle.
Students are often seen taking pictures at sporting events, Holy Mass, and numerous other events around BG. These images were all taken by Bishop Gorman students, and the write-up was a very positive way to share the news of Bishop Gorman's first football game.
This year, students have started a podcast with new episodes each Friday. You can find these podcasts on the Bishop Gorman website by clicking on CRU CAST. Here are links to the first 3 episodes:
We are very proud of the work these students are accomplishing!
Photos are by the following students in the order shown:
Ricardo Pineda (journalism), Maya Ranido (journalism and photography), Aiden Perez (photography), Michael Meads (photography), Brian Johnson (photography), Marisol Cruz (photography), and Molly Madsen (photography).
We ask for the intercession of St. Veronica, who captured the first image of Jesus, patron saint of photographers.

Bishop Gorman orchestra students can perform in ensembles, as soloists, and at Holy Mass. Under the direction of Dwight Anderson, students also participate in TAPPS, TMEA, and TPSMEA auditions and competitions, as well as numerous other performances such as special events, the Christmas concert, and a Spring concert.
BG Orchestra alumna Johanna Carmona furthered her education in music and continues to perform. Johanna attended and graduated from the Julliard School of Music and now performs and works in New York City.
Her senior recital at Julliard may be viewed via Youtube link: https://www.youtube.com/live/QWFVkzqaYEg?feature=shared. We are so proud of our alumni!!
Today, during Arts in Education Week, we celebrate current and former orchestra students of Bishop Gorman.
We ask for the intercession of St. Tutilo of Saint Gall, also a wonderful musician and artist.
